The concerns generated by the importation of various foodstuffs in the country has extended to the meat industry.

Yesterday, representatives of the poultry sector denounced unfair competition in the sale of imported chicken that is frozen, but which is packaged so as to appear to be fresh. These imports come from the United States.

Luis Carlos Castroverde, president of the National Poultry Association of Panama (Anavip), explained that the product is brought into the country, thawed and then sold in pieces as fresh.

"We will remain united to defend one of the most important bulwarks in the Panamanian agriculture, today threatened by commercial distortions and disloyal practices promoted from abroad," Castroverde said.
