UP students released

Five students from the University of Panama who were detained Tuesday for closing Via Transistmica have been ordered to check in with prosecutors every 15 days.

Sources of the Public Ministry reported that the students were released yesterday.

Consulted on this issue, UP Vice President for Student Affairs Eldis Barnes said that they will insist on the dismissal of charges since the students did not even participate in the events.

UP Secretary General Miguel Angel Candanedo said that classes resumed today after being suspended due to the protests.

He announced that on Tuesday more protests will be held to demand that the UP be allowed to acquire property.
