Martinelli working on memoirs

The former president is living in Miami.

Former President Ricardo Martinelli is still living in Miami and does not appear to be returning to Panama anytime soon.

A journalist from La Prensa tried to get an interview with the former president, who faces numerous criminal charges, but he refused to grant that request.

Martinelli is living in an apartment in the Atlantis building on Brickell Avenue, an exclusive residential area.

Thursday, a reporter from LA Prensa visited the Atlantis and contacted Martinelli through the building's security officer.

"I'm not giving interviews," he said to the reporter.

The next day the journalist again tried to get an interview, but Martinelli told her he was no longer going to be part of the "hit parade." He also said he is working on his memoirs.

Asked about the content of the book, he said it will focus on his time in office.

"I'll tell you all the ins and outs," he said.

In February, Maritnelli granted an interview to Cuban-born journalist María Elvira Salazar. But since then he has not made any public appearances. During that time, the government has expanded its investigations into alleged corruption and other criminal acts that took place during his administration.
