Environment Minister Mirei Endara reported her resignation Saturday following the signing of two decrees promoting tourism at El Oasis in the Volcán Barú National Park.

The official said that her departure from that office is due to personal reasons.

During her speech at the event and with a broken voice, Endara thanked President Juan Carlos Varela, his team and his family for the support they provided during her tenure.

The president thanked her for the work she did during his administration.

Varela reported that Endara will continue to advise the government on issues such as water conservation.

Current Deputy Minister of the Environment Emilio Sempris will replace her on a temporary basis.
