On Jan. 28, Martinelli traveled to Guatemala to the plenary session of the Central American Parliament, of which he is a member. That same day, the Supreme Court voted to investigate him for corruption.
His private plane traveled to Florida, and then Canada, Ireland and Italy. But he was not on board when the plane landed in Italy, according to sources at the airport the plane used, and apparently never left the United States.
Martinelli's lawyers said he would return to Panama by the end of this month.
