Police capture suspect in cycling death

He was hiding in a home in Veraguas.

Police captured Henry Edwin Jaén Cherigo, who is wanted in connection with an accident that killed cyclist Mónica Licona, 22, Saturday morning in a house in Santiago, Veraguas.

According to preliminary reports, Jaén Cherigo was found hiding in the attic of a house in the neighborhood of Las Perlas.

Two other people inside the house were also arrested. The search was based on information from the public.

"I want to thank the community, as we received very valuable information," said Police Director Omar Pinzón.

Authorities said they will deliver the $20,000 reward that had been offered in the case.

Jaén Cherigo has been identified as the person who rented the car involved in the accident, which took place at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 20 on Avenida Balboa. The car was found that same morning abandoned on Avenida Mexico.

The suspect will be taken to Panama City.
