"People saw smoke in the cafeteria and set off the alarm," said Panama Fire Investigator Juan De Arco. "We investigated what happened, and we believe it was caused by a coffee machine in poor condition."
No injured were not reported.
After the incident, several deputies noted that the building has had a number of problems since it opened in July 2014. These include water leaks and issues with the elevators.
The building was built by Grupo Corcione, who won the bid at an original cost of $19 million. The project ended up costing $29 million.
