Assembly considering increasing penalty for missed child support payments

Offenders could have their driver's license suspended.

Temas:

The National Assembly is considering a law that would punish those who fail to make child support payments by suspending their driver's license.

The law is pending the approval of the plenary of the National Assembly. The change is being considered due to the fact that other measures to force the payments have not been effective.

According to the Center of Judicial Statistics, the problem of people failing to make these payments have increased year after year.

Deputy Marylín Vallarino, who was chairman of the Committee on Women, Children and Family, proposed the bill during the last session to address the problem.
