Justice demanded in bus fire case

Carlos Gavilanes, the legal representative of several victims of the La Cresta bus fire, said that the justice system has ignored many of the parties culpable for the incident that left 18 people dead and a number of others injured.

He argued that only the driver and the owner of the bus have been prosecuted, and the bus manufacturer and the manufacturer of the parts that caused the fire were allowed to avoid justice.

He also expressed concern that the government has not been held liable despite the extremely poor condition of the country's public transportation system.

"It is important to point out that in the 10 demands that I have presented to the Supreme Court, the state has never been held liable," he said.

Another lawyer for the victims, Víctor Martínez, said that the state has turned its back on the victims, who are now seeking justice abroad.

There is a civil suit that is pending in Houston, Texas.
