Chamber supports takeover of Metro Bus

The Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the decision by the government to assume control of the Metro Bus service.

However, it called on users to temper their expectations, saying the service will not improve overnight.

"To achieve the expected level of service will require a joint effort of all the authorities involved," said the organization in a statement.

He said users and citizens in general also have to do their part to use the service in an orderly manner.

The chamber also stressed that it is imperative to resolve issues with service.

"In recent years, delays in the modernization of public transport has resulted in unfortunate accidents. This issue continues to be a topic which has not received the attention necessary to radically improve service," the chamber said.

The government has announced it will hire the American company First Transit to operate the system.
