Unpopular Brazilian President Michel Temer promises to withdraw from politics at the end of his term.

In an interview broadcast Thursday night, Temer said he has not made mistakes in his duties since the ouster of his predecessor Dilma Rousseff last year.

The 76-year-old president vowed not to seek re-election and would approve austerity measures promised before the end of his term on Dec. 31, 2018.

A recent survey by the Datafolha Institute says that only 9 percent of Brazilians approve of his performance, a figure lower than that of Rousseff at the time of his dismissal.

Temer's reputation has been affected by allegations of corruption in the investigation of bribes paid by Petrobras.

In a few weeks he faces a trial that could lead to his dismissal.
